Background

The ICCA project aimed to identify barriers to the adoption and mainstreaming of e-learning and to develop, through action and desk research, some transferable lessons and practices in the adoption and integration of learning technologies across the FE and workplace-learning field. One of the most active partners contributing to the ICCA project was Lewisham College, who provided input at a strategic level and were active participants in the health and social care pilot.

This case study was first drafted in mid-2003 during a time of change; an e-learning team was recruited to lead the college's development into the future. The case study charts the history of the college's e-learning activities and experiences in some detail, leading up to the appointment of the new team. It then looks at the current status of the college's e-learning strategy and initiatives. Many readers in the FE sector will recognise where they are in terms of this history, as they will have experienced somewhat similar experimental histories. Today, Lewisham College has a clear high level and embedded e-learning strategy and a planned pathway to realise its objectives. The ICCA project team hopes that this case study will be of interest to other FE Colleges - and to all those implementing learning technologies in their organisations.
