Previous and current e-learning provision

FAS
Through Net College, FAS has delivered a range of e-learning programmes mainly focused on ICT skills. Two centres however, at Cabra and Loughlinstown (both in the Dublin suburbs), have experimented extensively with learning technologies for over a decade. FAS Cabra developed the new flexible programme supported by learning technologies to deliver mechatronics training to both unemployed people and people in full time work - known as the MoFIT project. This programme was designed and developed with funding from the European Community under the Leonardo da Vinci Programme3. FAS led a group of partners from the public and private sectors from the UK (NI), Austria, the Netherlands and Norway in the design, development and piloting of the programme. During the pilot, HP participated with groups of learners from their plant at Leixlip and has now adopted the programme into their mainstream training of maintenance technicians.

HP
Individual staff and management in HP both in Ireland and globally have been utilising e-learning for many years. There is a dedicated learning centre at Leixlip, and ICT training (mainly ECDL) has been available online for some time. However, at the Leixlip plant in Ireland, this was the first time that e-learning was used in a tailored customised and supported way for specific occupational training.
