Developing the MoFIT content
During the project (2001-2003), work was undertaken to develop web delivered resources in five subjects: Electric/Electronic Control Systems, Pneumatics, PLCs, Hydraulics and Mechanics. By the end of the project, resources for two modules (Electric/Electronic Control Systems and Pneumatics) had been piloted twice. The Hydraulics resources (developed by the Austrian partner) had been fully piloted and the resources for PLCs were completed and going through a first pilot phase. The resources for Mechanics were still under development. Each module comprised web-based resources, a number of hours in a workshop laboratory, several formative and summative individual and group assignments, a formal end of module assessment and ongoing coaching and online trainer support.
With the exception of the Hydraulics resources, all content was developed by the instructors at FAS Cabra working with instructional designers, media developers and curriculum officers. The curricula were developed and subjected to FAS QA processes prior to resources development. Approval was required from national authorities before the new approach could be approved in order to offer the qualification. Although instructional designers were involved, they are few in number in FAS, and it became evident halfway through the project that the instructors needed to play a core role in the content development.
