Resources and support OR processes supported by resources?

This experience points to an important lesson - perhaps the most important in the whole project for FAS. They began with an assumption that they could develop a set of resources based on a curriculum and that a trainer/facilitator would then be able to take these resources and 'support' learners through their use of them in a largely self-learning mode. This model of learning has dominated the approach to e-learning for many years but it has become increasingly clear that resources are simply that: a set of resources. The transformation of these resources into usable ingredients in a teaching and learning process occurs only during the teaching and learning process. The lesson for FAS is that having full and deep knowledge of how the processes of teaching and learning will operate is essential in order to define what resources are most useful and how they should be used to support the learning and teaching process. Giving the FAS trainer a central role in the development (and through piloting, the refinement and re-development) of resources was a critical lesson.
