  • Tutor responsibilities
    Standard of support (offered by tutor)
  • Tutor to have a thorough working knowledge of the course content.
  • Proactively motivate students and encourage them to complete the course.
  • Respond promptly to student queries.
  • Mark work within a reasonable timescale.
  • Establish and monitor the class community via discussion forum.
  • Evaluate and continuously improve e-tutoring support.
  • Seek feedback from students to improve course provision.
  • Provide guidance and advice re suitability of course and advice re additional support available eg dyslexia support and basic skills.


  • Practice guide (tutor duties)
  • Carry out initial assessment of students online learning skills.
  • Identify and address any potential barriers to learning identified in the Individual Learning Plan.
  • Mark student work.
  • Provide supportive robust feedback to students.
  • Move students on by offering extra advice and suggestions of additional study materials.
  • Initiate activities that will facilitate learning.
  • Use all communication systems available to communicate with students.
  • Encourage students to use discussion groups and highlight the benefits.
  • Guide students in setting achievable goals.
  • Help students to revise their goals / learning plan to overcome barriers.
  • Create a study program that enhances the online course by providing advice on self study: how to use the internet as a resource and group activities.
  • Encourage learners to complete where attendance and motivation is lacking.
  • Establish a supportive relationship with the students.
  • Provide activities or an introduction to familiarise the student with the online learning platform.
  • Provide face to face group tutor support and guided learning.
  • Inform students of the progression paths available.
  • Keep records of student attendance and progress through the course.
  • Adhere to the college's administrative systems and procedures
