Union Learning reps and e-learning
They are an unusual but particularly good illustration of the important role that can be played by trade union representatives in engaging staff and assisting the change process in e-learning. This illustrates the ICCA Toolkit emphasis on communication and explaining the value for all stakeholders. 'We really didn't anticipate how much energy and hard work this would require to make it happen. We've just stuck with it and the learning reps have been fantastic and the results are starting to come through. There needs to be constant marketing and promotional energy going into it.'
Sue Angles also emphasises the need for the sponsor - in this case management at all levels in the organisation, to be totally committed and to be seen to be committed, and to know what it is they want to achieve and be able to communicate it. Another factor that emerged from use of the ICCA Toolkit as important in relation to learners was the concern of front line staff about going to an office to learn and as in so many other organisations, creating the time and space for them to learn.
