New technology supporting e-government targets
RBWM have begun roll out of a new enterprise wide ICT system/intranet and within that, there is a virtual learning environment (VLE), which has not been used to date. The intranet is an investment to support their e-Government and modernisation programme and is expected to take a year to roll out fully. The majority of office based staff have intranet-linked workstations or will have by the time of completion of roll out. Staff based outside main offices providing community and other services are also being connected and everyone will have access to at last one locally connected workstation. They have done some small piloting with home access and this is a developing priority for the council, with more staff being encouraged to take up flexible working.
