Conclusions

1. The content and general approach are highly appreciated and led to important outcomes for the learners.
The learners very positively appreciated being able to learn when and where was convenient, and the flexibility to access learning that the course offers them. For some of them, committing to a fixed time and place to learn can be difficult: half of them accessed the module from home as well as in the Carers' Centre.

"It was so good to be able to complete a course from beginning to end - fitting in with my lifestyle. At home on the PC, late night even. My skills as a carer are enhanced by the new knowledge I have.. especially useful were communication and how to deal with people in authorities. I can't wait for the next course!"

Written note from one of the carers provided at the post pilot interview.

The Learning for Living Module 1 content was praised for being relevant and for giving all the learners a sense of the value of their role, the range and complexity of the tasks they undertake and the high level of responsibility the role carries. All stated that it made them realise what and how much they do in their daily role.

It was good for reflecting in my own life and I think is motivating me to move. Thinking about caring - it makes you think about you and your own needs - thinking about how much you do and how you do it. I would advise others do it - it can enhance skills and make you feel good about yourself. I liked the stuff about communication. I learnt some things that I applied immediately - I could recognise things I was able to use. The last module made me think about my future."

Comments from carers at final pilot review.
